Hannah Kaye

Our beautiful, teeny tiny, angel baby was born last week (EARLY...who woulda guessed???), Sunday morning, July 22nd at 1:32 a.m.  Emergency C-Section (didn't see that one comin'!): breech (feet first with the chord about to fall out..tender mercy that my water didn't break).  6.6 oz, 18 1/2 inches long.  I can't wait to blog about it, but at the rare moments when both my babygirls are sleeping, I try to make myself, too, and the luxury of a few minutes at the computer might be a little longer in coming.  :)

Hogle Zoo

On Monday, Matt used one of his vacation days so that we could cruise down to Salt Lake and introduce Madi to all of her animal pals at the Hogle Zoo.  Madi LOVES all animals and has been perfecting their sounds for months now.  She especially loves to bugle like an elephant and call like a monkey.  Daniel and Brook and their four cuties from Washington were in town and met up with us.  Aunt Jill, the prettiest pregnant angel we've ever seen, and Aunt Jodi, our bestest adventure buddy, met up with as well!

We started off strong and had a blast.  But I'm not sure how much Madi digested at the zoo.  When I pointed out the elephants, she was absorbed with the foilage directly in her line of sight.  When we pointed out the monkeys, she admired the smudge on their glass cage.  Then when the sun's merciless rays started beating down on us, we lost Madi's paci, and naptime came and went without any shut-eye, we decided to call it a day.  We do love a good adventure...but have no shame throwing in the towel when the fun is all funned out!

Lava Hot Springs

Last week we were able to squeeze in a last hurrah retreat before babygirl makes her debut.  We stayed close and mozied up to Lava Hot Springs, ID.  Our bestest adventure buddy, Aunt Jodi, broke free of the hospital (due to her job as a radiologist...not frequent accidents/injuries) and joined us!  We lived it up and had the time of our lives!

First Matt and Jodi rented tubes and hit the river (after a delicious lunch at the local burger joint).  We're talking white rapids, SCARY river.  Jodi went under during her first trip down and couldn't get back on her tube.  Luckily a handsome stranger came to the rescue but Jodi was pretty mortified...and banged up!  She had scratches from her shoulder to her big toe and everywhere in between.  But true to their "never surrender" attitude, they didn't give up and floated the river 5 more times.  Matt ended up with a matching shoulder wound.  But they had a blast and came away with many tales from their adventures.  It was fun for Madi and I to walk the river trail and document the experience.  We then opted for the air-conditioned car and became the pick-up/drop-off committee.

After a little rest, we ate dinner at the Royal Pizza Parlor...yum!  Matt and Jodi then walked across the street from our hotel, the classy Tumbling Waters Inn, to the hot spring pools while Mama and Mads took another stroll and got ready for bed.  Madi graciously slept through the night and we were off another day of adventure.

Day 2 started with a walk to the grocery store for breakfast.  After Madder's morning nap, we packed up, checked out, and headed over to the Olympic pool for some fun before leaving town.  They had 3 VERY TALL platforms to jump from and lots of slides so of course Matt and Jodi had to conquer them all.  We had lots of delicious snacks and swam to our heart's desires.  Madi loved splashing with Mama and a good time was had by all.

4th of July

We had a splendid 4th of July, treasuring the last moments with our only-child before baby #2 arrives.  We attended the HUGE parade in Hyrum where Madi was captivated by the crowds, commotion, horses, and princesses.  The candy was plentiful and we were swimming in taffy and tootsies.  Afterwards, we cooled down at Josh and Lindy's house and splashed in the backyard pool.  Madi was so tuckered out after a day full of adventures she slept right through the fireworks but she'll get another chance when they blast them off in our backyard for the 24th.  A good time was had by all.  WE LOVE AMERICA, fun, family, and festivities!

And I couldn't resist including these patriotic beauties from a photoshoot with Grandma Black in Bountiful (Mike and Emily's beautiful yard) when Madi was 11 months.  Such a cute bench/cabin/kiddo!
